Last week, I watched the new movie Elysium. For those of you who do not know, the plot is set in the not too distant future, in which Earth has become vastly overpopulated. Because of this, the richest people on the planet move to a new planet called Elysium that orbits ours. It is a semi-apocalyptic look at what “could” happen if too many people were living at the same time. Not surprisingly, the wealthy individuals have life pretty good. They have developed advanced medical pods that can heal any ailment, whether that is a broken bone or cancer. Wouldn’t that be nice?!
Although we will probably never see these devices, at least any in our lifetimes, this is not to say that there are not any cool gadgets to play with. Home automation systems have been in existence for some time now. They started out simple and with limited functions, but have since advanced to an entirely different stage. Homeowners can now control virtually every aspect of their household, from lighting to security to entertainment to temperature, all from the convenience of a mobile smart phone or tablet. Granted we don’t have the luxuries of Elysium, I think it is safe to say there are many tech-savvy minds worthy of praise.
The point to be emphasized about home automation is that it is a solution to many common problems and concerns. If you forget to leave a light in your house or want to remotely control the thermostat before you get off work, you can do so with ease. These systems thus serve functional (energy and hence money-saving) and entertainment purposes, and the best part of all is that they have become increasingly affordable.
3 Awesome Household Robots
If you hate cleaning your gutters as much as I do, then consider these robots your knight in shining armor. Equipped with an aerodynamically shaped, rotatable front arm, users can remotely drive the Looj and effectively scoop out leaves and debris with ease. Its treaded-belt is rugged, meaning it is not going to fall off your roof and plummet to its robot death!
Think of this device as a Skype-mobile, because that is basically what it is. These robots can be piloted remotely and features both advanced voice and video capabilities. When your smart phone or desktop simply will not do, the ConnectR is the answer. Just think, you can carry an eye to eye conversation with your pet!
- Agent 007
This thing is too cool. If the name alone is not convincing enough, the fact that the PatrolBot line can detect and subsequently scream “Police! Freeze!” at intruders, is pretty awesome. It comes equipped with a professional grade security camera that can snap HD pictures and record video. It is like having your very own personal bodyguard running around the clock.
